# BESS Subdivisions-1 Tool Notes

BESS-Subdivisions-1 (beta) was released in October 2025.

BESS is managed by the Council Alliance for a Sustainable Built Environment (CASBE) on behalf of our member councils (opens new window).

In many Victorian councils, planning permit applicants are encouraged to complete a BESS Subdivisions report, selecting relevant design standards that will be embedded in the new subdivision.

This process means sustainability is considered early, it aligns with the subdivision application workflow, and is a practical way to demonstrate commitment to climate resilience, gain council support, and streamline the sustainability aspects of your planning approval.
